BIRS Arrests 2 Staff And 7 Others For Extortion

The extortionists were arrested yesterday during a sting operation by the task force at the Tyo Mu tax point at 10:30 pm.

The Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) Task Force on illegal tax activity has apprehended two BIRS staff and seven others for extortion.

The extortionists were arrested yesterday during a sting operation by the task force at the Tyo Mu tax point at 10:30 pm.

The two staff, Mr. Kondom Isaac and Mr. Dura Orahii were arrested alongside their accomplices for collecting various sums of money from tax payers without proper accountability or recourse to BIRS tax regulations.

The culprits were receiving money from commuters without issuing Point of Sales (POS) receipts.

Others arrested include: Terhide Chihi, Stanley Tarkohol, Iorzua Timothy, Aondohemba Anyimam, Terngu Nyianshima, Alakali Terlumun, James Nyamigba.

The operation also witnessed the impounding of a truck by the task force for evading tax.

They have since been handed over to the Police for onward prosecutions.

Meanwhile the Area Upper Court opposite School Of Nursing, on Friday adjourned the case against two culprits arrested earlier at Tyo Mu for extortion, Mr. Imoter Une and Mr. Victor Songu to 3rd March, 2020.
